Public universities in Nigeria receive most of their funding from the government and as a result, are able to maintain low school fees. Private universities on the other hand rely on private funding and high fees from students which enables them to maintain a stable academic calendar and provide conducive learning environments. Public university lecturers just ended an 8 months-long strike driven by poor funding.
