The Ominira Initiative seeks the services of qualified and experienced research consultants to support its Economic Freedom Audit of Nigeria Project. The project aims to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the state of economic freedom in Nigeria and to promote reforms that will enhance the country’s economic performance.
Largely based on the Economic Freedom of the World Report which is published annually by the Canada-based Fraser Institute, this audit will dive into Nigeria’s performance in the specific areas measured in the report vis-a-vis the current social and economic realities and trends in the country, drawing recommendations and actionable insights to inform better and favourable government policies.
In the latest release of the report (2024), Nigeria was ranked 113 out of 165 countries, with the country performing better in the areas of size of government (4), regulation (83), and sound money (90). However, this economic freedom audit will focus more on the two areas where Nigeria lags in the report, namely: legal system and property rights (137), and freedom to trade internationally (159).
The consultants will work together with Ominira Initiative staff to produce a report that will detail the economic freedom audit. Additionally, the consultants will moderate a 1-day stakeholder workshop to be held in Abuja in September and will be invited to speak at the Economic Freedom Audit main event that will be held in February 2026 in Lagos.
The ideal research consultant must have a sound understanding of economics or law, property rights, and public administration. Additionally, he/she must hold at least a master’s degree and possess relevant research and publication experience.
As remuneration, Ominira Initiative will pay each consultant a sum of ₦1,000,000. Interested and qualified individuals should kindly send a Letter of Interest (LoI) to info@ominirainitiative.org on or before 25th July 2025.
